Wait- men do Boudoir? | male boudoir indianapolis
Do men do boudoir photoshoots?
Short answer- Yep!
Long answer- absolutely, and I wish more men knew it was an option. I’m on a mission to help EVERYONE feel more comfortable in their skin.
When most people hear the word “boudoir” they immediately picture women in lingerie sprawled across a bed. That’s fair, since that’s what the industry has focused on for years, and yes I still do lots of those types of photoshoots!
But boudoir photography at my Indianapolis studio isn’t about lingerie.
It’s about confidence. It’s about self-expression. It’s about seeing yourself in a way you don’t get to see every day.
And those things aren’t exclusive to women.
I’ve photographed men who wanted a gift for their partner. Men who are going through a journey where their body is changing- maybe they’ve gained or lost weight, are working out, maybe they have a life altering medical diagnosis they are dealing with. Men going through big life transitions, like a new job or marriage or divorce, or a milestone birthday. Men who just want to feel really good about themselves- maybe for the first time in their life. They want to quiet that negative voice everyone, regardless of gender, has when they look in the mirror.
I promise, every single person is nervous walking into the studio. That’s completely normal. You don’t need to know how to pose, you don’t need to practice a smoldering look in front of the mirror, and you certainly don’t need a six pack. You just need to walk in the door- I’ve got you from there. Every single person says “that was a lot easier than I thought” at the end of their photoshoot. Most of the time we’re just hanging out. talking, listening to music, and you almost forget I’m taking photos. That’s how I get the real you.
Do you have to get naked? absolutely not. Some men are fully clothed the entire session. Some do some shirtless, some do some in their underwear, and yes some do nudes. At this point I look at a penis the same way I do an ear or an elbow in the studio- it’s just another body part to make sure the light is falling on in the right way.
Some guys want to wear jeans and a leather jacket, some want to wear workout gear, some want to wear a suit. Some want dramatic moody images, some want playful images. Some want photos that feel powerful, some want photos that feel vulnerable. Some want very masculine images, some want feminine images. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do a boudoir session with me. The goal isn’t to turn you into someone else. The goal is to show you who you already are, without the negative filter we all put on ourselves.
I think a lot of men spend their lives being photographed for practical reasons- family pictures, headshots, weddings, maybe a few vacation photos. But they don’t get the chance to be truly seen for who they are.
You don’t have to earn the right to be photographed. You don’t need to lose weight or gain muscle. You don’t need to wait until you’re more confident. You just need to see yourself through a different lens- my lens- to understand you are worthy of being celebrated just as you are.
